John has been with Crimson Tide Aquatics since 2002. He is currently an ASCA Level 4 coach with 14 years experience. John came to us from San Diego, where he taught high school mathematics at Carlsbad High School, while he served as the boys' swim coach. He received a Bachelors Degree in mathematics and a Masters Degree in education at Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington, where he was a swimming All-American. He received his Masters Degree in applied mathematics in May, 2006 from The University of Alabama. Hobbies include swimming (for fitness and fun) and, of course, fly-fishing the famous Gallatin River outside of his hometown, Bozeman, Montana. His wife, Caroline, works in the Psychology Department at The University of Alabama. They have two baby girls.
Nancie Blewitt
(Bronze Coach)
Nancie has been coaching for Crimson Tide Aquatics (formerly TUSC) for over twenty years. She also heads the Tuscaloosa Parks and Recreation swimming program. Nancie has a bachelor's degree from Muskingum College in Ohio and a master's degree from Cornell University. She has been teaching mathematics at Shelton State Community College since 1994. Her husband, Bing, is a professor at The University of Alabama. They have five children. All five of their children swam for Crimson Tide Aquatics and one went on to swim for The University of Alabama. Two of their grand-daughters swam for Crimson Tide Aquatics.
Lisa Berger
(Crimson Coach)
Lisa is a former All-American swimmer for The University of Alabama (1982-1986). She was a member of the University's only women's SEC championship swimming team (1985). Lisa has also coached the summer Northwood Lake Swim Team since 2001 and previously coached the CTA master's swim team. She has taught elementary school for the past 18 years in Tuscaloosa. Her husband, Don, is also a former All-American swimmer for The University of Alabama. They have three daughters, all of whom swim for Crimson Tide Aquatics.
Jeremy Whitt
(Silver Coach)
Jeremy is currently a Senior at the University of Alabama. He has been swimming since the age of six and has attended many swim camps at U of A over the course of his swimming career. At the age of 18, he joined the submarine fleet for the U.S. Navy and made two tours around the world on the U.S.S. Chicago. Upon completion of his duty, he returned home and began working as a swim coach for the Athens Swim Team. Jeremy coached them for 5 years. This is his third year with us at CTA and he hopes to have many more as he pursues his B.S. degree in Secondary Education in Mathematics. Jeremy plans to continue at the University of Alabama in pursuit of a Masters Degree in the same field.
